Memorable Moments

AMAZING GRACE

In November 2008, St. Mary's participated in the Amazing Grace project. We were among 500 parishes to contribute our video presentation and assisted in the raising of $68,000 to support parishes in Canada's north. Parishioner Tom Carleton prepared our excellent video and we are grateful for his talent. Click here to view the video.

SERVICE OF COLLATION

The Service of Collation of the Venerable Jane E. Humphreys to be the Archdeacon of Essex was held on the Feast Day of St. Hilary of Poitiers Monday, January 14, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. It was a beautiful service with The Rt. Rev. Bruce Howe as Officiant and The Rt. Rev. Robert Bennett as Celebrant. A reception followed the service.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS 2007
This popular annual service was very well attended by St. Mary's parishioners, many friends from the community and all our animal companions. Pictures are here.

PARISH PICNIC 2005
We had excellent weather and a good turnout for our annual Parish Picnic, held this year (as usual) at the Belle River Optimist Park. We started with Holy Communion (with full choir and even special music!) and then had an excellent potluck picnic lunch, followed by games and soaking up the sun on a warm and breezy day. Pictures are here.

ANNUAL VICTORIAN TEA 2005
Here are some of the wonderful pictures from our Annual Elegant Afternoon in Langford Hall. It was a hot day, but our intrepid Victorians were not deterred!

CONGRATULATIONS (AGAIN!) PAMELA BARNETT
At Diocesan Synod on May 29, Bishop Bruce Howe announced that Pamela Barnett is receiving the Order of Huron, for her faithful service to the wider church (The Diocese).

PENTECOST 2005
On May 15, 2005 we again had red and white helium balloons at Pentecost.

HONOURING CANON JOHN
On June 27, 2004 we celebrated the retirement of Canon John. Click here for pictures.

CONGRATULATIONS PAMELA BARNETT!
On receiving the Bishop's Award of Excellence In Ministry at the Second Annual Bishop's Awards for Excellence in Ministry Sunday on November 2, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of Saint Paul London, Ontario. Click here for article and picture.

On Sunday, June 8, St. Mary's celebrated the second most important Christian Feast Day, Whitsunday. The Day of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. Red and white balloons adorned both sides of the aisles tied to the pews with red and white ribbons. The congregation recessed to the Hymn Holy Spirit, Come with Power and once outside, the ribbons were cut off and the environmentally friendly balloons were released.

On Sunday, May 25  St. Mary's celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Laying of the Cornerstone 10:00 - Family Eucharist followed by an outdoor service using the original service for the Laying of the Cornerstone as we bury a Centennial Time Capsule. A "Soup & Bun Lunch" ($3) sponsored by the Refugee Committee follows. At 1:00 p.m. there was a recital in the church by Prof. David Palmer. A Celebration Cake was served in the Parish Hall after the recital. Come and see.

Blessing of the Animals Sunday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m.
This was our 4th Annual service and as always enjoyed by everyone (2 legged & 4 legged) The hymn singing was especially enjoyed by Gabriel the horse who joined in the chorus of All Creatures of Our God and King.  He's a tenor said his owner Jody Ness, Canon John's wife.  There were well over 50 pets ranging in size from Canon John's horse Dexter to the Curtis Family gecko.  While the pets enjoyed their treats the owners enjoyed hot dogs and pop.  This fun family service is always on the third Sunday of September.  If you missed us this year mark your calendar for next year.
